Think Small partners meet Karen childcare needs

ST. PAUL (Feb. 27, 2012) — With 18 Karen “Family, Friend or Neighbors” providers attending a Shaken Baby Syndrome seminar on Monday at the Karen Organization of Minnesota.

The training organized by Think Small, a leader in early learning provider training for over 30 years. It offered valuable instruction for unlicensed “FFN” providers in prevention and care training for children.

ST. PAUL (Jan. 7, 2011) — A class of Minority Media Training is official opening on Saturday at  Asian Community Technology Center in St. Paul.

Asian Community Media Institute is organizing this 10 day training project with the financial support by the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area Self Development of People Committee. The goal of the project is to help low income and minority adult students to obtain some basic information about operations of four media areas of: Newspaper, Radio, Television and Web.

Student Visas and Citizenship Workshop

The final Student Visas & Citizenship Workshop will be held Oct. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the main auditorium of Hennepin Technical College — Brooklyn Park Campus, 9000 Brooklyn Boulevard, Brooklyn Park.

Anyone interested in information and processes for receiving F-1 student visas, green cards, and citizenship should attend the forum. Legal permanent residents who want to become US citizens are encouraged to attend the forum. The event is sponsored by Hennepin Technical College’s Multicultural/International Office.

First Ever Hmong Women Writers’ Conference

Fifty Hmong women from Minnesota will convene in southeastern Minnesota for the first ever Hmong women writers’ conference on September 9-11, 2011 at Villa Maria Retreat Center, 29847 Co. 2 Blvd., Frontenac, MN 55026.

The Hmong Women Write Now retreat is being hosted by Hnub Tshiab: Hmong Women Achieving Together, a nonprofit that acts as a catalyst to improve the lives of Hmong women and girls. The conference is being hosted in collaboration with St. Paul-based Hmong Arts Connection (HArC), an arts organization that nurtures and promotes the literary arts in the Hmong community.

Catching up on QuickBooks skills

Saint Paul, Minn. (July 22, 2011) — This past Friday, The University of Minnesota’s Broadband Access Project held a free two part training session on Quick Books for Saint Paul Public Housing at the Asian Community Technology Center.

Barbara Engram, 61, a PEER with the Presidents Council, was one of the many trainees that day.  “I’m real happy with it because right now I am the acting treasurer for two of the high rises and we do all of the paperwork by hand.  With the adding and the subtracting of everything Quick Books is going to make it a lot easier so that we can just enter it and have it put it into the right funds for us.”
