Unique educators program to better teach about Asia

This spring the East Asian Studies Center at Indiana University will hold a National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA) Teaching about Asia seminar in St. Paul, Minnesota. The purpose of the program is to provide a solid foundation for teaching about East Asia.

Metro State Scholarship Awards

St. Paul, Minn. – Metropolitan State University announced several scholarship awards last week. Ten Metropolitan State University students recently received Travelers Scholars Program Scholarship awards of $5,500. This scholarship fund is aimed at preparing students for careers in the insurance and financial services industry, and is for students majoring in accounting, business administration, computer science, finance, marketing and other fields of study from which Travelers recruits prospective employees.

Saint Paul receives grant awards to fund 2011 Summer EMS Academy

SAINT PAUL – After a very competitive process, the City of Saint Paul has received $20,000 from the Spectrum Trust Multi-Cultural Endowment sponsored by The Saint Paul Foundation and a $50,000 grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation, to assist in funding the 2011 Summer EMS Academy which will be held in mid-June 2011.

OCA Announces the 2010 OCA-UPS Gold Mountain Scholars

Washington, D.C. (August 31, 2010) – The Organization of Chinese Americans, a national organization with 80 chapters and affiliates dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans, announced the 12 winners of the its OCA-UPS Gold Mountain Scholarship. The scholarship awards $2,000 to high school seniors who are the first person in their family to attend college in the United States.  Scholarship recipients must also demonstrate academic achievement, leadership ability, and commitment to community service.

(August 16, 2010) – The Organization of Chinese Americans – National Chapter, on Monday announced the 10 winners of the OCA-Verizon College Scholarship. The scholarship awards $2,000 to college students entering their third or fourth year of undergraduate studies who have financial need and who demonstrate academic achievement in the fields of technology, engineering, computer science, and business.

(August 11, 2010) – The Organization of Chinese Americans, a national organization with 80 chapters and affiliates dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans, announced Wedensday the 10 winners of the AXA- Achievement Scholarship. The scholarship awards $2,000 to high school seniors who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership ability, and commitment to community service and will be attending an institution of higher learning this fall.  Since 2004, the scholarship has awarded 64 scholarships for a total amount of $128,000.

Century College Foundation Scholarships

White Bear Lake, Minn. (July 29, 2010) – The Century College Foundation has awarded 98 students with scholarships totaling $117,250 for the 2010-2011 academic year. There were six new scholarships and an additional 93 scholarships that were awarded through the Preparing to Achieve a College Education program.

Isabella N. Dawis named National Merit Scholar

Six more Minneapolis Public Schools students on July 12 were named college-sponsored National Merit Scholars. In total, nine MPS students received National Merit Scholarships during the 2009-10 school year. Isabella N. Dawis of Southwest High School was awarded the National Merit University of Minnesota Scholarship for 2010. She was named a National Merit semifinalist in 2009.

ST. PAUL (July 14, 2010) – Not many scholarship recipients are given such a memorable ceremony as was a group of Hmong women invited by State Sen. Mee Moua to the Minnesota Senate Chamber at the State Capitol last week. It was the second year in a row that several Twin Cities area students received $2,500 university scholarships from the Asian Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund that was made possible with donations from Farmers Insurance.
