Asian & Pacific American Scholarship Fund Recipients

NEW YORK, November 3, 2011 – More than 500 outstanding Asian Pacific American high school and college students were awarded scholarships November 1 at the APIASF annual benefit at the Hilton New York. Scholarships ranged from $2,500 to $8,000 individually.  More than half of the awardees come from families that live at or below the poverty level, and other recipients are otherwise of low-socioeconomic status.  Many of the scholars are the first in their family to attend college.

First Ever Hmong Women Writers’ Conference

Fifty Hmong women from Minnesota will convene in southeastern Minnesota for the first ever Hmong women writers’ conference on September 9-11, 2011 at Villa Maria Retreat Center, 29847 Co. 2 Blvd., Frontenac, MN 55026.

The Hmong Women Write Now retreat is being hosted by Hnub Tshiab: Hmong Women Achieving Together, a nonprofit that acts as a catalyst to improve the lives of Hmong women and girls. The conference is being hosted in collaboration with St. Paul-based Hmong Arts Connection (HArC), an arts organization that nurtures and promotes the literary arts in the Hmong community.

Comcast award to OCA Internship Program

Xay Yang receives leadership scholarship

Xay Yang received a $5,000 LGBT leadership scholarship from the PFund Foundation.

MINNEAPOLIS (May 18, 2011) – PFund, a Minnesota foundation dedicated exclusively to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality, today announced it has awarded Xay Yang with a $5,000 scholarship. Xay was selected based on leadership, activism and community involvement.

$2,500 College Scholarship Available Through United Way

Minneapolis (February 11, 2011) – Greater Twin Cities United Way is accepting applications for the Juliet Evans Nelson Scholarship. The $2,500 scholarship will be awarded by Greater Twin Cities United Way and the Nelson family to an outstanding youth volunteer. Qualified applicants must be high school juniors for the 2010-2011 school year and must live and volunteer in Anoka, Carver, Chisago, Dakota, Hennepin, Isanti, Ramsey, Scott or Washington counties. The student must be planning to enter post-secondary education in the fall of 2012.
