Washington, D.C (March 27, 2012) — The White House honored Bernarda Wong on Thursday as one of ten leaders being recognized as Champions of Change who, like Cesar Chavez, have dedicated themselves to improving the lives of others throughout their community and across the Nation.

One of our Nation’s great civil rights leaders, Cesar Estrada Chavez came of age as a migrant farm worker, witnessing the injustice that pervaded fields and vineyards across California.  Yet amidst hardship and abuse, Cesar Chavez saw the promise of change — the unlimited potential of a community organized around a common purpose.

NEW YORK (March 20, 2012) — The CLIO Awards, one of the world’s most recognized awards competitions honoring excellence in advertising, design and communications, today named Piyush Pandey as the recipient of the 2012 CLIO Lifetime Achievement Award.

Pandey, the Executive Chairman and Creative Director of South Asia for Ogilvy & Mather India, will be the first person from the region to receive the distinction. With a prolific advertising career spanning three decades, Pandey is often revered as “the godfather of Indian advertising” by peers.  He will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 53rd annual CLIO Awards ceremony, taking place on Tuesday, May 15th at the American Museum of Natural History in New York.

Twin Cities Kids “Kick Butts!”

WASHINGTON, DC – Kids in Minnesota will take center stage in the fight against tobacco on March 21 as they join thousands of young people nationwide for the 17th annual Kick Butts Day.  More than 1,100 events are planned across the nation (for a list of local events see below).

Organized by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and sponsored by the United Health Foundation, Kick Butts Day is an annual celebration of youth leadership and activism in the fight against tobacco use.  On Kick Butts Day, youth will encourage their peers to stay tobacco-free and educate their communities about the dangers of tobacco and the tobacco industry’s harmful marketing practices.

Ms. Angelique Power, Senior program officer of culture program of the foundation explains that she came to Minneapolis to present the Minneapolis/St. Paul winners and provide new changes to Joyce Awards in 2013. The goal is for these commissions to produce vivid, new works of art that strengthen cultural venues and draw people of diverse backgrounds to experience the rewards of participating in the arts.

ST. PAUL (Feb. 27, 2012) — With 18 Karen “Family, Friend or Neighbors” providers attending a Shaken Baby Syndrome seminar on Monday at the Karen Organization of Minnesota.

The training organized by Think Small, a leader in early learning provider training for over 30 years. It offered valuable instruction for unlicensed “FFN” providers in prevention and care training for children.
