APA teens speak from the heart about culture and identity

In “Yellow: Where we can be, An Anthology of the Asian American Teenagers’ Experience,” youth from the Twin Cities Metro area tell and write of their experience growing up Asian American. Within 100 pages, the book offers photos, poetry, prose, and profiles of the members of the Asian Pacific Leadership Council in an effort to provide understanding and be a source of information for many on the lives and experiences of today’s Asian American youth.

MINNEAPOLIS (February 11, 2010) – The Asian American Studies Program at the University of Minnesota hosted its 4th monthly discussion as part of an Asian American Partnership for Tomorrow program last month at the University of Minnesota. AAPT is a program that seeks to engage Asian American students, staff and faculty, and broader community to better understand the larger social, historical and political contexts in which community issues are embedded.

(August 18, 2010) – Governor Tim Pawlenty on Wednesday appointed three new Board Members to the State Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans – and also reappointed four other members. The new members include Connie Mei Ledford, Hue Danny Lee, and Tsewang Ngodup, M.D.  The reappointed members include Eleasalo “Salo” Ale, Ikram M. Rain doesn’t dampen Dragon Festival spirit

The Dragon Festival’s Phalen lake location and a string of good weather years has made it a highlight of summer. This past weekend it rained, and rained hard a the end of the event, but not until it had run its course for another successful year.

The festival started activities earlier this year, with an early morning health walk around the lake, and a morning hip hop demonstration and competition on both days. The The Festival begins officially with an Awakening the Dragon ceremony, involving a long dragon dance procession by members of CAAM Chinese Dance Theater, with blessings by monks. A similar ceremony puts the dragon to sleep on Sunday evening.
