L.P.F Projects is organizing “A Walk to Remember: Love 4Japan Project: The Earthquake & Tsunami Disaster Relief” benefit show on Oct. 23, 2011, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seven Sushi Lounge, 700 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55403.

The event combines a diverse group of young, talented people to create fabulous fashion and art events to raise money for people in need. It is designed to give back to the community and provide opportunity for artists while also having fun.

The event is cosponsored by Seven Sushi Lounge and The Model Boutique. Palden Gyatso returns to Minnesota

One of the world’s longest serving political prisoners will again visit Minnesota on Sun., Aug. 21, 2011 at 4 p.m. at the Tibetan Community Hall, 1096 Raymond Ave, Saint Paul, MN 55108. The Venerable Palden Gyatso is an 80 year old Tibetan monk and former Amnesty International Prisoner of Conscience. He is one of the world’s longest serving political prisoners after surviving 33 years of confinement in the Chinese gulag where he was constantly exposed to various forms of indoctrination and torture.

University Avenue Community Parade

The University Avenue Community Parade will start at Highway 280 and roll to Hamline Avenue on Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. Community organizations and members are uniting this month for the second straight year to demonstrate their “coming together” to ensure that this diverse community is respected and its voices heard for a better future. The parade will begin at Grotto and Edmund, travel to University, go along University to Galtier, and head south to the Western Sculpture Garden.

First Ever Hmong Women Writers’ Conference

Fifty Hmong women from Minnesota will convene in southeastern Minnesota for the first ever Hmong women writers’ conference on September 9-11, 2011 at Villa Maria Retreat Center, 29847 Co. 2 Blvd., Frontenac, MN 55026.

The Hmong Women Write Now retreat is being hosted by Hnub Tshiab: Hmong Women Achieving Together, a nonprofit that acts as a catalyst to improve the lives of Hmong women and girls. The conference is being hosted in collaboration with St. Paul-based Hmong Arts Connection (HArC), an arts organization that nurtures and promotes the literary arts in the Hmong community.

Atomic Bombing Commemoration

The 2011 Hiroshima and Nagasaki commemoration events in Minneapolis and St. Paul will feature teenagers from Minnesota and Nagasaki as well as new music and dance. The intergenerational KAIROS dance troupe will perform to Greg Herriges’ guitar piece inspired by the Peace Garden at Lyndale Park in Minneapolis on Saturday, August 6, at 7:30 a.m. The victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake will also be remembered. All events are free and open to the public.
