Hawai‘i law students win top moot court awards

HONOLULU (March 1, 2012) — University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s William S. Richardson School of Law students won seven out of nine top awards at the National Native American Law Students Association’s 20th Annual Moot Court Competition, held in Honolulu on February 24–25.

The Mānoa students won first, second and (tied) for third place in the best advocate category. They also placed first and second place in the best oralist category and second and third in the best brief category.

ST. PAUL (Feb. 25, 2012) — The first Taste of Little Mekong event was held Saturday at Mai Village Restaurant at Western and University Avenues in St. Paul.

The event is the work of the Asian Economic Development Association and members of the Asian businesses in the concentrated ethnic corridor of the Frogtown and Midway area. The event attracted business and civic leaders in addition to many other supporters in the arts, education and nonprofit sectors.

Taste of Little Mekong was designed to celebrate the Asian cultures and flavors, along with exhibits and presentations, cultural shows and sample of ethnic Asian food. Its mission is to improve the area at University Avenue and Western as an welcoming destination for visitors and residents; to support and promote businesses; to share cultural traditions and activities; and to create a living, breathing, colorful district for all to enjoy.

USDA to Host First U.S.-China Agricultural Symposium

WASHINGTON, Feb. 9, 2012—Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced today that government and industry leaders from the United States and China will gather in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday, Feb. 16, for the first U.S.-China Agricultural Symposium. Vilsack traveled to China for the second time as Agriculture Secretary in November to continue to strengthen bilateral trade relations and support the American brand of agriculture throughout the Asia Pacific region. During the visit, Vilsack and Chinese officials developed the U.S.-China Agriculture Symposium as a key forum to expand their discussions into 2012 and beyond.
