Applications for Saint Paul’s EMS Academy Available

Applications for the City of Saint Paul’s EMS Academy are now available at www.stpaul.gov/jobs.

The EMS Academy is an EMT-certification program for Saint Paul youth ages 18-24 who are interested in a career as an EMT or firefighter. Selected candidates earn hourly wages for attending the 14-week course, which includes CPR certification, First Responder certification, ride-alongs with the Saint Paul Fire Department paramedics, and Emergency Room shadowing. Upon successful completion of the course, participants earn National EMT Certification, 9 college credits, and are prepared to work in a variety of EMT positions.

ST. PAUL (August 7, 2011) — Emma Corrie has made a career out of bringing people together. She’s worked in human resources for 18 years and the last decade for the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Most of her career has focused on helping minorities earn positions in government. In May of 2011, Corrie was promoted to Mn/DOT Operations Division Business Manager. Mn/DOT’s Operations division is two-thirds of the department, including 5,000 employees.

Saint Paul receives grant awards to fund 2011 Summer EMS Academy

SAINT PAUL – After a very competitive process, the City of Saint Paul has received $20,000 from the Spectrum Trust Multi-Cultural Endowment sponsored by The Saint Paul Foundation and a $50,000 grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation, to assist in funding the 2011 Summer EMS Academy which will be held in mid-June 2011.

MINNEPAOLIS (November 4, 2010) – Chinese students at the University of Minnesota were treated to a workshop for last week to highlight the importance of networking in the process of career development. The workshop, organized by the Chinese Career Development Association, brought together three speakers and about 110 students for an hour of enlightening professional development dialogue for students that either be putting the skills to work in China, the United States or other locations around the world.

STEP-UP interns complete summer on-the-job experience

Minneapolis (August 11, 2010) – Mayor R.T. Rybak and 1,350 of the youth employed through the City’s STEP-UP program celebrated the completion of their summer program Wednesday at a Minneapolis Convention Center event. The students worked as paid interns throughout the city at 178 businesses and organizations that partnered with a commitment to training the city’s future workforce.
