A group exhibition of contemporary photography from The People’s Republic of China, curated by Gu Zheng and A. D. Coleman, will run from August 2-25, 2011 in the Katherine E. Nash Gallery of the Regis Center for Art, University of Minnesota, 405 – 21st Avenue South, Minneapolis. The Opening Reception will be held Thur., Aug. 11, 5 to 7:30 p.m. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tues. through Sat. All events at the Regis Center for Art are free and open to the public.

East meets West — Have you ever wanted to see an Asian musical?  Do you have a particular interest in the Filipino community?  If so, a performance called PAGDIRIWANG is an event you won’t want to miss.

PAGDIRIWANG means celebration in Filipino and Director Lita Vargas Malicsi says “the show celebrates the artistry and brilliance of local performers.”  She describes it simply as a “musical jamboree of aesthetic expressions, much like a musical garden – full of color, variety, and surprise.”

Ordway Center for the Performing Arts is gearing up for its 11th Flint Hills International Children’s Festival. Minnesota’s signature arts festival for children and families features performing artists from all across the state, region and world. Festival dates are May 31-June 5, 2011. Nearly 500,000 people have enjoyed the Festival since it began in 2000.

Sidewalk Poetry Contest

St. Paul, Minn. Saint Paul Public Works announced today the Fourth Annual Saint Paul Sidewalk Poetry Contest.  The contest is open March 15 through April 17, 2011 and accepts short poems from Saint Paul residents of all ages. Winning poems will be inscribed in sidewalks as part of the City’s annual Sidewalk Replacement program and winning poets receive a cash award.  Since the program was inaugurated in 2008, 31 poems have been impressed into 268 sidewalk sites citywide.
