US China Business Connections will hold its next monthly breakfast networking meeting Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2014, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. in Room MOH 201 of the University of St. Thomas — Minneapolis Campus Look for Room MOH 201 on the second floor across from the security desk. Park in the 10th St. & Hennepin Ramp and take the elevator to the second floor.
The January topic will be the “Looming 2014 West Coast Dock Strike: What Does This Mean for Exports from and Imports to the U.S.?”
The guest presenter will be Chad Laden, Regional Vice President of Operations at Jacobson Global Logistics, Inc.
The presentation begins with an overview of the 2008 labor agreement of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), from San Diego to Seattle, which is about to end in June of 2014. Words of walkouts, stoppage, or even a strike are rippling through the US business world. Impact of even short duration and minimal effect have an exponential impact on all supply chains going in and out of the west coast.
Mr. Laden will address some of the challenges and barriers leading up to, navigating through, along with responding to the aftermath of this event. If you are responsible for components or products going through our western U.S. ports, it is imperative you attend. Your skills to defend against this pending event could make or break your business so sign up today.
Chad Laden is an experienced supply chain professional. He has 15 years of industry experience working with Customs brokers and NVOCC’s. He has been with Jacobson Global Logistics (JGL) for nine years and is currently Regional Vice President of Operations.
Laden’s background covers both Customs brokerage and international transportation, with the primary focus being import ocean and air transportation. He is a former Midwest Global Trade Association (MGTA) board member (2006-2008) and remains an active member in the association today.
