ST. PAUL (Aug. 8, 2013) — CKC Good Food, a premier school food service vendor, announced Thursday the promotion of General Manager Wang-Yu Vu to senior vice president and general manager.
Vu is a recognized clan leader and activist in the Minnesota Hmong community. Additionally, the company promoted Business Development Director Tim Frid to president. Company Founder and Owner Nancy Close remains chief executive officer.
“Wang-Yu has been instrumental on so many fronts at CKC,” Close said. “Not only has he kept our daily food service operations running smoothly as we’ve grown to provide over 20,000 meals a day, he has helped us serve our client schools with large Hmong populations respectfully, with authentic Hmong recipes that honor the culture and meet federal and state regulations.”
Vu joined CKC Good Food in 2010 as a project manager and was promoted to general manager after eight months. He has earned the ServSafe certification and completed additional coursework related to various school food service programs.
Before joining CKC, he lived in four different countries within Asia, Europe and North America. This multicultural background combined with his experience as a real estate broker, IT support specialist, software engineer and chef in an Asian cuisine restaurant were excellent preparation for his position as general manager.
Vu uses his strong leadership experience, interpersonal communication style and managerial skills to ensure that all of CKC’s departments are focused on fulfilling the expectations of the diverse schools and students the company serves on a daily basis.
Frid joined CKC Good Food as business development director in January 2013, bringing over 30 years of sales and management experience to the company. Previously, he owned, led and grew two successful small businesses, taking responsibility for sales management, operational improvements and financial reporting functions for both.
“Tim and Wang-Yu have been instrumental in the phenomenal growth of CKC Good Food in the past year,” Close said. “They have helped me plan for the future of the company, prioritize our initiatives and manage the increased activity in our day-to-day operations. Their experience, counsel and contributions are invaluable to CKC Good Food and help us take management of our schools’ food service programs 100 steps further than anyone else.”
