U.S. – China Business Connections will hold its next Networking and Breakfast Meeting on Wed., Aug. 1, 2012, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Schulze Hall Auditorium of St. Thomas University — Minneapolis campus, 1000 LaSalle Ave., Minneapolis.
The guest presenter will be Tom Hanson, Program Secretary of St. Paul-Minneapolis Committee on Foreign Relations. He will speak on the topic, “China and the new U.S. Strategy in Asia Turbulence Ahead.”
In recent months, the United States has signaled a pivot to the Asia-Pacific region in a major reorientation of its military and security policy. At the same time, it has proposed a new trade bloc, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, that would exclude China.
Hanson will explain the background to these initiatives and analyze the implications for relations between the United States and China.
Hanson is a former Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State and is currently Diplomat in Residence at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He serves on the boards of the Oslo Center for Peace and Human Rights and the St. Paul-Minneapolis Committee on Foreign Relations
Networking and breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. with the presentation at 8 a.m. followed by time to ask questions from 8:40 to 9:30 a.m.
There is a $25 non-member fee. Students and new members may attend free of charge. There is 2.5 hours free parking with a voucher from the registration table for 11th St. & Harmon Place ramp and 10th St. & Hennepin ramp.
