MINNEAPOLIS (Dec. 18, 2015) — The Metropolitan Economic Development Association (Meda) announced Thursday the appointment of Joanna Ramirez Barrett, Ph.D., as the Vice President of Business Solutions. The appointment was effective Dec. 1, 2015.
As the Vice President of Business Solutions, Dr. Ramirez Barrett will be responsible for oversight of all organization-wide programs and their goals. She will evaluate services and solutions being offered and develop new offerings to meet the needs of Meda customers and stakeholders. Dr. Ramirez Barrett will also be responsible for developing and achieving strategic and annual goals.
“Joanna comes to us with a wealth of non-profit experience, specifically in the areas of program evaluation, internal operations and change management. She will be a valuable addition to our team of skilled staff,”said Gary L. Cunningham, Meda President and CEO.
Ramirez Barrett comes to Meda with more than 10 years of non-profit experience as a Program and Evaluation Director. In these roles she honed her skills of guiding change and utilizing best practices to improve program outcomes and organizational effectiveness. She has provided leadership and expertise in operations and evaluation to address the complex issues that impact minority entrepreneurs.
Prior to working in the non-profit sector, Ramirez Barrett worked as a research scientist examining and addressing disparities in various systems from health care to criminal justice.
Meda is a non-profit organization that provides business development services, access to capital and access to government and corporate opportunities to support minority entrepreneurs. Meda hosts the Minnesota Procurement Technical Assistance Center (MN PTAC) and the Small Business Innovation Research Program (MN SBIR). MN PTAC helps all Minnesota businesses pursue government procurement opportunities. MN SBIR helps all entrepreneurs and small businesses obtain federal funding for research and development of innovative technologies.
