ST. PAUL (Jan. 28, 2014) — Bruce Corrie, Ph.D., Associate Vice President, University Relations & International Programs, and Professor in the College of Business and Organizational Leadership at Concordia University — Saint Paul Campus, has launched a free app on iTunes on “immigrant capital.”
The “Dynamic Power of Ethnic Capital — USA” app can be downloaded at http://bit.ly/1du2jym.
“The app provides a comprehensive national perspective on the economic contributions of immigrants with an interactive map showing economic data by state,” Corrie said. “The android version will be ready to download next week.”
As an economist for more than a decade, and an advocate on ethnic cultural capital. Corrie said he wanted to offer a new way of looking at minorities and immigrants as ethnic capital: economic, cultural, social and political assets.
“If we look at these communities from this perspective we will discover a new engine for economic and social growth in America with potential greater than that unleashed by the internet,” Corrie said. “Their economic contributions are larger than the GDP of many countries in the world and they add much to the social, cultural and innovation fabric of America.”
The app breaks down data into cultural categories.
The Ethnic Taxpayers category shows that immigrant groups pay an estimated $500 billion in national and local taxes.
The Ethnic Consumers category shows how immigrants have more than $1.5 trillion in buying power in helping to sustain rural and urban communities.
The Ethnic Businesses category notes taht 5.8 million ethnic entrepreneurs with $1 trillion in sales are employing 5.8 million with a payroll of $164 billion.
The Ethnic Workers category shows how high and low skilled workers are playing a critical role in the economy.
The Ethnic Global Networks shows imigrant groups take the lead in connecting America to global opportunities.
The Ethnic Political Capital category shows how immigrants are vibrant participants in civic and political organizations.
