Brooklyn Park, Minn. (July 11, 2016) – This summer the City of Brooklyn Park is hosting eight interns who will be taking on a wide range of responsibilities throughout the City.
The interns will be tasked with organizing community meetings, spreading the word about city initiatives, and leading fun activities with the city’s new Rec on the Go program.
BrookLynk is a public-private partnership whose mission is to connect young people in the Brooklyns facing barriers to employment with the skills, employment experience and professional social networks they need to launch their careers. The organization helps fulfill its mission through work readiness training, paid summer internships and exposure to careers. This summer, 65 teens have paid summer internships throughout the community that will create $98,000 in earned income for youth.
In its inaugural year, BrookLynk placed 29 young adults in summer jobs. This summer alone, BrookLynk has welcomed nine new employers to its partners, and employers such as Boston Scientific in Maple Grove have more than doubled the amount of internships they offer. Boston Scientific believes that creating this early exposure to their business will help to meet their business needs in the short and long-term.
