(Dec. 9, 2013) — Basis Technology today announced that Kobo, a global leader in eReading, selected the Rosette(R) linguistics platform to support its eReading platform for the Japanese market. Toronto-based Kobo offers nearly 4-million eBooks, magazines, and newspapers across 68 languages including Japanese.
The company offers a suite of top-ranking eReading apps, E Ink eReaders and eReading tablets including the newly announced Kobo Aura and the Kobo Arc lineup of Google-certified Android tablets.
Since 2012, Kobo has offered its products and services to the Japanese market. With over ten years of experience and achievements in the Japanese commercial and government markets and a high reputation for performance and reliability, Basis Technology was the ideal partner to support the Japanese linguistic processing required to deliver a superior experience for Japanese customers.
Kobo uses Rosette to perform essential processing of Japanese text, including tokenization, normalization, part-of-speech tagging, entity extraction, transcoding, and Unicode compliance. In addition to Japanese, Rosette offers text analytics capabilities in languages covering Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the Middle East.
