Beverly Hills, Calif. (Sept. 4, 2013) — Since ancient times, fresh fish and seafood has played a central role in the Korean kitchen.
Naturally, the Rorangjin Market, in distributing it has been one of the main attractions of the capital Seoul. Now that the time to modernize this great landmark has come, Hollywood design firm, 5+Design got the honor of taking fish auctioning into a new era covered in glass and glamour on 87,000 square meters.
Winning a competition for designing the new market facility in 2008, the architectural firm came up with ways of enhancing the overall appearance and experience of the market to increase visitation by locals and tourists alike. The new facility will modernize the warehousing and auction floors and provide additional office, retail and restaurant program.
While the lower floors are treated very simply pragmatically to allow maximum access and flexibility, the upper floors are allowed to become more expressive and evocative as the functions change to more entertainment-oriented uses. The roof deck provides numerous amenities as well, including performance spaces, retail kiosks, and open-air Korean restaurants and bars and afford panoramic views through the glass body of the cutting edge construction shaped like a fish to the Financial Districts and the historical Han River.
5+design has led the way in building the future of retail, residential, master-planned communities and mixed-use developments that span from a 10 million square foot project in Dongguan, to ultra-modern condos in Westwood, Calif. and over a hundred of others on every continent.
