MINNEAPOLIS — Iny Asian Dance theater will celebrate the Lunar New Year with its first-ever Pan Asian Dance Drama “YIYUSA” (Youth International Youth USA) on Saturday, Feb. 23, 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 24, 2 p.m. at O’Shaughnessy Auditorium of St. Catherine University, 2004 Randolph Avenue, Saint Paul, MN 55105.
This unforgettable performance is choreographed by acclaimed Hmong artist, Iny Mai Vang Xiong. With interweaving non-stop acrobatics, amazing costumes, and dazzling dances, this extraordinary 120-minute YIYUSA show features Youth Talent and Calling for Unity.
In collaboration with Twin Cities Chinese Dance Center, Asian Media Access, Pan Asian Arts Alliance, Iny Asian Dance Theater (IADT) proudly presents this authentic Dance Drama – YIYUSA – that utilize multi-media, interweaving acrobatics and traditional Asian Dances, to re-tell an ancient Asian mystery.
Directed by Kang Vang, Music Composed by Chaochi Ly, Choreographed by Huran Zhang (Artistic Director of TCCDC) and Iny Mai Vang Xiong (Artistic Director of IADT), YIYUSA adapts a traditional folklore, incorporates graceful dance movements and enhances group formations to present this breathtaking story.
Iny Asian Dance Theater has a long history of earning 1st place titles at yearly Hmong New Year dance competitions. The Dance Troupe is famous for its explosive physical capabilities along with beautiful costumes using traditional and contemporary music from different Asian regions.
With newly composed music score, top Asian performing artists, more than 40 newly choreographed dances, along with more than 200 dancers, this is a performance you don’t want to miss while celebrating the Lunar New Year.
Led and Choreographed by Acclaimed Hmong Artist, Iny Xiong, Iny Asian Dance Theater has successfully served more than 120 students annually. Its mission is to broaden students’ ability and the general public’s appreciation of Asian Dances through teaching and performance.
The two major focus of Iny Asian Dance Theater are: Bringing the Asian Traditional Dances to Life, with a special focus on Asian Indian, Chinese, Hmong, Laotian and Thai dances through weekly dance classes and community engagement performances; and sharing Asian cultures and talents with mainstream audience to build a better community of appreciation of diverse arts with Annual Recital and newly created Dance Drama Performance series.
Currently, Iny Asian Dance Theater has seven different dance levels and age groups Ranging from the most advanced are: MN SunShine, Ocean Dance Group, Hmong Heroes, Silver Skies, Dancing Mist, Snow Flakes, to the youngest group – the Rainbow Dance Group.
