MINNEAPOLIS (July 23, 2014) — Young Artists Initiative (YAI) caps off its 11th Season with the enchanting musical classic Cinderella, in performance Aug. 7 – 10 at the Performance Space at Neighborhood House/Wellstone Center, 179 Robie Street East, St. Paul, MN 55107-2360.
YAI is also partnering with the Operation Glass Slipper of MN with a dress drive donation at all of the performances of Cinderella.
The timeless enchantment of this magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers and Hammerstein’s hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits. In this specially created G2K version, all the beloved songs and familiar characters are present and accounted for. However, the script has been condensed to better suit young attention spans, and the plot has been slightly altered to highlight some important lessons that exist in this timeless tale.
Cinderella features an all-youth cast of 24 and more than 10 youth crew members from around the Twin Cities.
Directed by Michelle Schwantes, with Music Direction by Robert Frost and Choreography by Brianna Belland. Scenic Design is by Shannon Morgan, Costume Design by Clara Cavins-Wolford, and Lighting Design by Jason Millner. Properties by Conner McEvoy . Stage Management by Andrew Turbeville. Production Coordinator is YAI founder and artistic director Benjamin Lacina. YAI is a performing arts organization based on Saint Paul’s East Side that provides access to high quality arts programming, teaching and developing young artists in our community.
YAI encourages youth to perform and achieve, to earn, grow, exceed expectations and confidence. Children are honored for who they are and work as a community with shared values that bridge communities.
