Innovating a fresh collaboration designed to encompass producing and presenting, Pangea World Theater and Teatro del Pueblo will produce Federico García Lorca’s The House of Bernarda Alba directed by Laurie Carlos from April 9 through 25, 2010 at SteppingStone Theatre, 55 Victoria Street N., St. Paul.“In this particular time it is imperative that like minded organizations find new ways to partner to maximize their impact,” says Meena Natarajan, Executive and Literary Director, Pangea World Theater.
Passion erupts from the oppressive environment in The House of Bernarda Alba. Five daughters are forced into mourning by their mother. One by one they make a bid for freedom, with tragic consequences.
In The House of Bernarda Alba, Lorca addresses patriarchal constraints faced by women and anticipates Spain’s fall to a fascist regime. Within a year of completing The House of Bernarda Alba, Lorca was murdered as the Spanish Civil war escalated.
All shows are at 7:30 p.m. on April 9-11, April 16-18, and April 22-25. Post-performance discussions are held Fridays and Saturdays.
