Playwrights perform as Unit Collective
0MINNEAPOLIS — Los Angeles-based Unit Collective member Joe Luis Cedillo came up with the prompt this November. As he explains, ” The prompt for me comes from the idea what if the people getting together for Thanksgiving are not suppose to be together?”
Cedillo will perform Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, 7 p.m., at The Playwright’s Center. 2301 East Franklin Avenue, Minneapolis. Other than receiving an assigned locale, six participating playwrights are to following three requirements:
1. Talking Turkey.
2. Line: “…you’ll never believe me but I’m going to tell you anyway…”
3. A single autobiographical detail: A favorite dish or one the writer absolutely hate has to appear at some point in play.
If you haven’t been to Madness before, here’s how it works. Each month, a new Producing Playwright is chosen from the Unit Collective. That Producing Playwright picks a theme, and the playwrights have a few weeks to write a 10-minute piece inspired by that theme. A week before Madness, the playwrights submit casting needs, and casting is done from the pool of actors we’ve compiled. On the night of Madness, each piece is given approx. 30 minutes of rehearsal/staging time.
The intention of the Madness by the Unit Collective is to create and explore a collaborative process between the playwright, the director, and the actors with feedback from the audience.
