The University of Minnesota College of Design’s Goldstein Museum of Design will host an exhibition on The Architecture of Ergino lu & Çalılar, from Sept. 6 through Oct. 22, at its HGA Gallery in Rapson Hall, 89 Church Street, Minneapolis. The two Istanbul architects also will discuss their work during a reception on October 14.
Ergino lu & Çalı lar Architects is an Istanbul based, independent firm of architects founded in 1993 by Hasan Çalı lar and Kerem Ergino lu. The firm specializes in urban planning, architecture, and interior design with a diverse portfolio of national and international projects including an adaptive re-use design of a former salt repository in Istanbul’s industrial Kasimpa. a neighborhood, which won the “New & Old Award” at the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona in 2010.
Inspired by architecture that is modern, public and local, Ergino lu and Çalı lar continually seek to question and be informed by the contexts and elemental morphologies of their projects, working at both pragmatic and conceptual scales to link economy, construction and design.
The curator of this GMD exhibition is Jim Dozier, HGA Gallery Exhibition Coordinator and lecturer, School of Architecture, College of Design.
The October 14 talk featuring Erginoğlu and Çalışlar, titled, “Rendezvous with the U – Context and Intuition: Modern, Public, Local Space,” begins at 6:00 pm, in room 100 of Rapson Hall. The event is sponsored by the Minneapolis AIA
The Goldstein Museum of Design (GMD), part of the University of Minnesota’s College of Design, supports teaching and research in design through exhibitions, publications, programs, and community partnerships. GMD celebrates diverse cultures through its collections and programs by promoting the appreciation and interpretation of design within social, cultural, aesthetic, and historic contexts.
GMD Gallery is on the second floor of McNeal Hall, 1985 Buford Ave., St. Paul, MN 55108.
The GMD Gallery is open Tuesday, Wednesday, & Friday 10 am–4 pm, Thursday 10 am–8 pm and weekends 1:30–4:30 pm. The Gallery is closed Mondays and all University holidays.
Admission and Parking Gallery admission is free. Parking is in Gortner Ramp at 1395 Gortner Avenue. The ramp and McNeal Hall are both handicapped accessible.
