ST. PAUL (Sept. 28, 2011) — Twin Cities Public Television (tpt) is pleased to announce that on September 25, the station was awarded 11 Upper Midwest Emmy Awards, having received 26 nominations in 20 different categories.
Recipients ranged from on-air talent to behind-the-scenes producers, and from the fields of sound mixing and editing to those of graphic arts and photography. David Gillette and Mary Lahammer of tpt’s weekly public affairs program, Almanac, were both cited for their work. Minnesota Original, tpt’s weekly magazine program of Minnesota artists working in all disciplines, across all cultures, received a total of six Regional Emmy awards.
First Speakers: Restoring the Ojibwe Language, a documentary funded through Minnesota’s Legacy Amendment, was also honored with a Regional Emmy. First Speakers follows a new generation of Ojibwe scholars and educators racing against time to save Minnesota’s native language.
Other tpt program winners included Lowertown: The Rise of an Urban Village and Life Changing Art.
