SHAKOPEE, Minn., (Aug. 17, 2011) – The second weekend of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival is quickly approaching and with it comes the dogs. The 5th Annual Pet Fest will be held in the special events field and invites pet owners and their furry companions to browse through booths featuring over 40 pet vendors. Stops include learning about new products, pet nutrition, grooming tips, safety, clubs, and pet fostering.
Not to be left out, vendors will also be on-site for our feathered and feline friends as well. Can’t bring your dog? Not to worry, patrons have the chance to mingle among a variety of dog breeds, including Huskies, Shih Tzus, Collies, Dobermans and more from rescue organizations, in order to fill your pet fix. Owners can spoil their four legged friends with free tasty treats and new holistic dog food samples.
Fashion forward pooches dressed in their trendiest costumes are invited to the Special Events Stage, sponsored by our friends at Midwest Animal Rescue & Services, to compete for the ultimate title of ‘Best Dressed Pooch’ at the Pet Costume Contest. Fantastic prizes will be awarded, so make sure to step out with your best paw forward.
The gifted dogs from Twin Cities Disc Dog Club will show off their skills on the Special Events Field during their energetic Disc Dog shows, daily at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. If your dog is up for the challenge, training is available to help your pet master the techniques in disc throwing, so come on by and have a ball.
Dogs on duty: The Scott County Sheriff’s Department will hold K9 Narcotic Search Demonstrations to show patrons it’s all in a days work for these hard working dogs. Demonstrations will take place on the Special Events Field on Saturday and Sunday at 4:30.
Trot on over to the Raffle Table to register to win tasty dog treats, custom dog tags, gift baskets, prizes, and more. Demonstrations, events, and pet vendors are sure to keep all pet lovers entertained throughout the day.

The second weekend of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival will also host the 2nd Annual Royal Race 10K run and 5K walk/run on August 28. Walkers and runners of all levels are invited to participate in this annual event. Food and drinks will be provided followed by an awards ceremony to commemorate the event.
The Minnesota Renaissance Festival runs weekends and Labor Day, Aug. 20 through Oct. 2 and Friday, Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., rain or shine. The Festival is located on Hwy 169, seven miles south of Shakopee. Price of admission is $20.95 for adults; $11.95 for children 5-12; four and under is free; Dogs $10.00 with registration.
