BriAnna M. Daniels – Andrea Fairbanks – Soul Kitchen Drumline
Akiko Ostlund – Deja Stowers – Zeitgeist
Thu – Javi Santiago & Lucia Sarmiento
Fri – Cumbia Dalso
Sat – The Brass Messengers
With percussion, spoken word, dance, performance art, and opera – artists are exploring the themes closest to their hearts. BriAnna M. Daniels’ has a performance that seeks to challenges public compliance with silence, and the often clear yet unspoken aversion of disenfranchised Black elders and youth. Andrea Fairbanks blends contemporary and traditional Native Fancy Shawl dance, demonstrating the feeling of trying to fit in modern, mainstream society versus breaking expectations and just being one’s self. Zeitgeist is sharing a piece in development for their upcoming “Food Opera”. Deja Stowers is bringing REDD-SH-RAGE, Soul Kitchen – an experiment in percussion, and Akiko Ostlund – a Gorilla.
Bedlam Theatre, the Twin Cities one-of-a-kind average, iconic, classic, irrational theater has been working in the Lowertown neighborhood for over three years. Big Lowdown One, a partnership with Live Action Set, was developed out of the circumstance of Bedlam’s venue still being in the works and Bedlam needing to take it to the streets. The event delighted audiences such that we’ve kept it a summer tradition. Last year audiences were treated to “Lowertown Playground” – a co-production with PlaceBase Productions. Big Lowdown: Turned Inside Out will be the third Big Lowdown.
Each night will be followed by live music so plan to stick around!
