Mu Performing Arts presents “Taiko Blast!” at the Minnesota Fringe Festival directed by Jennifer Weir, and featuring members of Mu Daiko from August 5 through 14, 2011 at Mixed Blood Theatre.
After its hit show Taiko Bam garnered rave reviews in 2012, Twin Cities’ and Mu Performing Arts’ resident taiko ensemble Mu Daiko returns to the Minnesota Fringe Festival in Taiko Blast. Once again, members of the group will take the stage at Mixed Blood Theatre for an intimate yet vigorous Japanese American drumming performance that features some of Mu Daiko’s most beloved and energizing selections, as well as new works by Mu Daiko members.
Taiko Blast is the only show at this year’s Fringe to combine music, movement, and cross-cultural performing art, a formula that propelled last year’s Taiko Bam into the top 10 most attended productions of the festival. The performance comes on the heels of Mu Daiko’s Ordway concert in June, and includes works that audiences will recognize from that most recent event.
Taiko Blast also precedes Mu Daiko’s 15th Anniversary season, when the group will again perform at Ordway’s McKnight Theatre to kick off a Minnesota tour. Mu Daiko senior artist and composer Jennifer Weir directs the group, which features drummers Craig Schultz, Susan Tanabe, Sarah Senseman, Cathie VanDanacker, and Emma Valentine.
Performances take place between August 5 and 14. Dates, times, and ticket information are available at the Minnesota Fringe website, www.fringefestival.org, or at 866-811-4111.
