Metropolitan State University’s first annual Global Food, Fashion and Awards event is Sunday, April 10, from noon to 3:00 p.m. at the Midtown Global Market, 920 East Lake Street, Minneapolis. This event recognizes and celebrates diversity initiatives across the university community. Admission is free, and Metropolitan State University students, alumni, faculty and staff who present their university ID will be given five Global Bucks, redeemable for food or other items at the market’s vendors.
Attendees must be present to win multiple prize drawings. An event bag will be given to participants while supply lasts. Selected pieces of music by local artists such as Apollo Cobra, New Reb, Dan “Daddy Squeeze” Newton and Orange Mighty Trio will be featured.
Midtown Global Market retailers are providing fashions and accessories to be modeled. Those participating include Arte Hispano, Cosecha Imports, Ecua, Fiesta in America, Hmong Handicrafts, Ijahman Change of Style, Mill City Merchants, Mulki Shop, Perfume Empire, Simba Craftware, TC Tags, and Tibet Arts and Gifts.
Sarah Colvin, MNFashion, is the mistress of ceremonies, bringing her extensive background in managing, producing and organizing fashion shows to the event.
Along with the fashion show, the event features the presentation of diversity awards. This event is produced in collaboration between the university’s Antiracism and Diversity Learning task forces.
