110 short films and 14 feature length films in five days
MINNEAPOLIS (Sept. 14, 2015) — The eighth annual Minneapolis Underground Film Festival is taking place onOctober 7-11, at St. Anthony Main Theatre. This year’s festival will feature over 110 short films, 40 of which are MN Made. Executive director Mark Hanson explains, “Even though we are screening more then 110 short films, we still found room to include 14 feature length films, 12 of which of Premieres and host filmmakers Q&A’s, so this year is not to be missed.”
Some of those feature length films include:
“Wildlike” by Frank Hall Green – A thrilling coming-of-age adventure that premiered at MSPIFF, screening Thursday, Oct. 8th at 7:15 pm. Q&A with Producer Joseph Stephans after the screening. http://www.wildlikefilm.com
“The Real Miyagi” by Kevin Derek – A long-awaited documentary about the master Fumio Demura who heavy influenced and trained Hollywood’s elite marital artists from Bruce Lee, Steven Seagal and Chuck Norris to name a few. http://www.therealmiyagi.com
“The Desk” by Andrew Goldman – Interviewer for The New York Times Magazine, Andrew Goldman finds his life and career fall apart after he starts shooting a short film about controversial New Zealand broadcaster Paul Henry.http://www.highlyreplaceable.
“War of Lies” by Matthias Bittner – A documentary about Rafed Aljanabi; the man who provided the information that was ultimately used by the US government to legitimize the invasion of Iraq in 2003. https://vimeo.com/111918314
War of Lies will screen on Sunday, October 11th the same day of the world premiere of “Smoke Filled Lungs” by Askkan Soltani a feature film about a war veteran struggling with prescription drug addiction, while trying to bonding with his teenage nephew.
“Remake Remix Rip-off” by Cem Kaya – A documentary about copy culture and Turkish pop cinema. 1960’s-1970’s Turkish Film Industry was one of the biggest producers of film in the world. They kept up with the demand by not just remaking movies from all over the world, but including actual clips or music from those films. Some highlights include: Dracula, Superman, James Bond, Flash Gordon, Rambo, E.T. and Star Wars.http://www.remakeremixripoff.
“The Sound before the Fury” by Martin Sarrazac & Lola Frederich – 40 years after the recording of Attica Blues, Archie Stepp revisits his music with 25 musicians rehearsing for a Paris Concert. Documenting the intense rehearsal while interweaving images, footage and interviews from the Attica prison rebellion; “The Sound before the Fury” celebrates his music and the courage of the Attica Prison rebellion.https://vimeo.com/62451707
