Nirvana Center: Bhutanese Community Organization of Minnesota has arranged to show a the film “Suruwat” produced, acted, and directed by Bhutanese in the USA this Dec. 15, 2012, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the University of Minnesota St Paul Campus Student Center, 2017 Buford Ave. Suite 42.
Written and directed by Santosh Ramdam, Suruwat was released in February 2012. It stars Bhanu Tiwari, Bhuwan Ranpal, Revica Shankar, Gita Barakoti and people from Bhutanese Community living around the globe.
The film is new beginnings, and depicts the challenges, struggles, joys and pain, and hopes of starting a new life in a new environment that is very often colored by the conflicts resulting out of cultural value difference. This might be an opportunity for everyone to have a glimpse of the Bhutanese population on Minnesota, and about their particular acculturation process.
There is a short health education and promotion program by Bhutanese doctors before the movie starts.
“On behalf of Nirvana Center I would like to welcome you all to the program to educate and entertain yourself watching the movie,” said Parmananda Khatiwoda, MA, MSW, LGSW, a Doctoral Student in the School of Social Work at the University of Minnesota.
Tickets are $10 for ages 13 and older, and $8 for kids under 13, and free for ages 5 and under.
