The 2014 production of “Brahmaputra meets the Mississippi — A colorful cultural program” is holding its annual fundraiser on Saturday, May 17, with dinner at 6 p.m. followed by the performance at 7 p.m. at Powderhorn Park, 3400 15th Ave. S, Minneapolis, MN 55407.
The event is in part to create awareness and interface of the local with the global community in the twin cities. It is a unique opportunity to understand and explore a part of the world that is not often in the limelight.
Another goald is to raise funds for villages in Assam, India. Two partnering organizations include Raastriya Gramin Vikas Nidhi, (www.rgvnindia.org) which works on empowerment women; and Fertile ground (www.fertile-ground.org), a group that works on organic farming in Assam.
The show will include professional dancers and traditional routines from all over the world: Bihu, Irish, Bollywood, Belly dancing and more.
The performance and dinner are $25. The Indian meal will be cooked during the day prior to the event. Guest may volunteer and learn to cook Indian cuising while helping prepare for the event.
