Dublin, Calif. (Jan. 15, 2015) — Sahtu Press recently announced that the pre-orders for their second book, the debut poetry collection of Lao American poet Krysada Binly Panusith Phounsiri has opened. Entitled “Dance Among Elephants,” it features 75 pages of original poetry and photography, examining the Lao Diaspora and the human condition in poignant and touching ways.
Krysada Panusith Phounsiri and his family immigrated to the U.S. when he was two years old, growing up in the streets of Southeast San Diego, which influences much of the tone of his collection. He fell in love with writing at the young age of 11, but it wasn’t until he attended college at UC Berkeley that he became truly passionate about poetry. He’s been many things in his life, including a Physics/Astrophysics double major, with a minor in Creative Writing. He’s also been a professional dancer and photographer.
Lao American author Nor Sanavongsay said “It’s an exciting text from a rarely heard perspective that will change the way many people see the Lao journey and more importantly, the Lao future.”
Dr. Ketmani Kouanchao remarked “I think it’s wonderful to see the next generation adding their voice to Lao American arts and letters, especially as we celebrate forty years in America this year. He has a distinctive voice and I’m looking forward to reading many other books of his in the future.”
Sahtu Press was established in 2013. Their mission is to publish and promote enduring contemporary Lao American literature and to create academic and grassroots learning opportunities. Sahtu Press acquires, publishes, and markets high quality, imaginative work from emerging and established Lao American writers or those working on issues of interest to the Lao American community. Their first book was the children’s book “A Sticky Mess” retelling the classic folk tale of Xieng Mieng, a trickster figure from Laos. Recently they released an e-book version for the Kindle on Amazon. They have several other titles planned for release later this year.
Dance Among Elephants is normally available for $19.99, but during the pre-sale it will be available for $15 plus shipping. You can order here: http://sahtupress.com/books/dance-among-elephants/
