The new Bedlam Theatre venue is having a grand opening celebration on May 31, from noon to 2 a.m. at the Bedlam Lowertown, 213 East Fourth St., St. Paul, MN 55101. The event is sponsored by KFAI and is free and open to the public.
“All day long, you can tour the new space, sample the food, meet new people, make new connections, and learn how you help make Bedlam as a person, performer, patron, or donor. So drop by, share an idea, and help us celebrate our new space,” said Farrington Starnes, Bedlam media coordinator.
After the Grand Opening, Bedlam Lowertown will be open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily, with food, coffee and bar service all happening within the walls of the theatre. Visit the website at http://bedlamtheatre.org for more information about what’s coming up in the next month.
The Bedlam Lowertown Grand Opening Party will feature kids and adult friendly puppet workshops from noon to 2 p.m. It will be led by Christopher Lutter-Gardella of Puppet Farm Arts. Come make trash into art.
A puppet and performance cabaret will follow from 2 to 4 p.m., with Maren Ward, Steve Ackerman, and others. The puppets you create become part of the performance.
Get a tour of the neighborhood led by PlaceBase Productions, or chill out to a set of acoustic music in the space while sampling food from the Bedlam Lowertown menu from 4 to 6 p.m.
The official grand opening event with ribbon cuttings and speech makings start at 6 p.m. Come and hang out with Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman.
A cabaret featuring groups like New Native Theater, Four Humors, Dangerous Productions, Hijack and more hosted by Bedlam all-stars Maren Ward and Jon Mac Cole will go on form 7 to 9 p.m.
The bands, “Prophets of Peace” and “Sex Reys” will be rocking the house from 9 p.m. until midnight. After midnight, get your party pants on and get down as KFAI’s own Program Director Miguel Vargas spins some vinyl! Dance until we kick you out!
